In the wake of Spain's Euro 2008 victory, Luis Aragones has reiterated that he could have stayed on as manager, if he had been asked.

Aragones, who turns 70 in July, announced prior to this summer's finals that he would be stepping down as Spain boss at the end of the tournament.

Before Sunday's final victory over Germany at Ernst Happel Stadium, Aragones revealed that he made a decision to leave his post after the Spanish Football Federation failed to show a desire to retain his services.

And despite Fernando Torres striking the only goal of the game to down Germany and bring to an end Spain's 44-year wait for international glory, Aragones insists he will not be changing his mind.

"I will not be staying on as coach because I have been given no possibility to," said Aragones.

However, Aragones was pleased with his team's performance, adding: "We did things well, we won, period."
