The 23-year-old excelled at the Reebok Stadium last season following his switch from Aston Villa, and earned a call-up to Fabio Capello's England squad in June as a result.

"Gary is the best young centre-half in the country by an absolute mile," said Bolton boss Gary Megson.

"He's had another great season and I believe it's only a matter of time before he plays for England on a regular basis.

"Not only is he an outstanding footballer, he is a great lad to have around the place and I'm delighted that he sees his future lies with Bolton Wanderers."

"Berbatov - Thanks for your comments as they give cause for optimism but we are shy of a good striker still to do something.Dont know why our fans are aleays all over Megson either when other club fans always comment similar to you about him."

"berbatovspurs (Tottenham Hotspur fan) thatz everything that ur team lacks n maybe megson shd replace that poor wheeler-dealer harry redknapp who does not have a clue as to what hez dng. he wud be better managing in league 1 seriously. anw immense news for bolton fans. n villa fans... yeah why the hell did u sell him in the 1st place?"

"why did we sell him????"

berbatovspurs (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"I really think bolton are becoming a great team.

Take a look at their team:

Jussi: One of the best in the league.

Steinson/Kelly: Good two right backs.

Knight: A real talent.

Cahil: Best young centre-back in the country, he would not say not for fun.

Samuel/Robinson: Always liked Samuel, and Robinson is real solid.

Their centre midfield: Sean Davis, always good WHEN BEING PLAYED REGUARLY. Muamba, captain of England U/21, And Mark Davies( looked good when he came)

On the wings they have players like Gardner, Taylor, Mustapha. All real gifted players..

An the forward area, are players like Elmander and Davies always a treat.

And they also have Ricardo Vas Te as back up.

They could have a great season.

I have respect for what Gary Megson has done with Bolton, although Bolton fans seem to hate the man.

WHY??????????????????????"
