Olympic shot put champion Valerie Vili is considering a switch of nationality to represent Great Britain.

Vili, 24, told insidethegames.com in an exclusive interview that the funding available in Britain could tempt her to change allegiance.

The 24-year-old was born in Rotorua and has competed for New Zealand throughout her international career, which has included gold medals at the 2007 world championships and the following year's Beijing Olympics.

Her father was born in Bristol making her eligible for Britain.

Offers

"We (New Zealand) won three Olympic Golds in 2008, but the funding still isn't that flash," she said.

"If I lived elsewhere and competed for another country things might be different, but I love the country and love competing for New Zealand.

"However, I have to look to the future and live my own life.

"My father's English, so I have a connection with another country and have options.

"I have had offers, but have turned them down."
