British athletes are to be shown around the London 2012 Olympic Park by organisers on Monday, marking three years until the opening of the games.

Athletes, including new world diving champion Tom Daley are being given a tour of the Olympic Park including the Olympic Stadium, where the external structure is now complete, as well as the aquatics centre.

They will also be shown the beginning of the velodrome and Olympic village.

The tour will follow the first time trial of the Javelin Train, one of the key parts of the London 2012 transport system.

London 2012 chairman Seb Coe said: "The athletes who are visiting the Olympic Park today will get a small glimpse of the sporting stage that they - and we - have spent the last few years working towards.

"In exactly three years, London and the whole of the UK will be getting ready to stage the greatest event on earth and we will not disappoint."

London mayor Boris Johnson praised the work of the planners and construction workers saying: "Nobody visiting the Olympic Park can fail to be blown away by the extraordinary engineering achievement that greets you when you arrive in Stratford.

"A herculean effort by everyone on the 2012 project, from the planners to the construction workers, means we are ahead of schedule and on budget.

"I am extremely proud of that, even now, the world can witness the immense skills and technical expertise that is transforming a wasteland into a brand new quarter for our great city in breathtaking time."

IOC president Jacques Rogge said: "A little over four years ago, Seb Coe presented a vision to the IOC members of Games that would make a difference.

"London 2012 and its partners are delivering on that vision. Their good work since Singapore is a testament to that fact and I am in no doubt that in 2012, we will see great games that will make a difference to us all."

The tour will be a demonstration to show that London will not be affected by the delays and construction troubles that have plagued previous Olympic host cities.
