Bradley Wighins: Will the cyclist be amongst the medals?

Former Olympic medallist Steve Cram is confident that Team GB will succeed in Beijing - but do you agree with the former athlete?

Cram feels everything is in place for the Beijing-bound team to do well but do you think the team will return with a big medal haul?

In which sports do you think we will enjoy success? Can our track and field team triumph? Which athletes do you think will have a good Olympics?

Will the cycling team have a good games and maintain their form?

Can our rowers follow on from the heroic deeds of Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent and win more golds?

Are there any sports where Great Britain are likely to spring a surprise?

Sorry, but its attitude, i keep seeing the british swimmers say "glad to be here and am enjoying it" "just glad to reach a final" then i saw an american who was distraught at only getting a silver, Our swimmers/althletes have been training for this for 4 years 8 in some cases, nearly all of them have received lottery/sponsers, agreed some not massive amounts, but enough so they don't have to work so they can train 24/7, some even live in america, now we hear them say its a stepping stone to 2012 having watched the excellent documentary about John Aki Bua, he trained in the jungle and with no backing, in fact his country was more a hinderance, what would you think if the team you support said "we are just glad to be in this final" or lewis hamilton said happy to be part of it, Nicole Cooke and Rebecca Adlington have shown it can be done, and they are hardly rich from the sport (yet), sorry even Tom Daley should not be allowed to think that being there is enough, failure is something that should hurt and not want to experience again, from the day some schools decided competitive sports weren't to be encouraged is the day british sport headed down the wrong road!!!!!

To be involved in the Olympics, whether it be short lived or a medal winning success, must be the most proud moment of every athletes life. How many people that moan about our supposed inabilities have ever competed for their country, in fact how many of those people have ever competed in anything accept possibly the pessimism games? Playing any sport to the best of your ability is an adrenaline rush many people do not understand and usually because they are far too lazy or scared to put themselves on the line. Every single one of our competitors are willing to stand in front of the world in decleration of their ambition and whether achieved or not can rightly peer down at those that question them from the comfort of their arm chairs. Congratulations to every sinlge Briton that competes in achieving the dream of reaching the Olympics and congratulations to those that try to put them down for successfully advertising prozac!

Is it not time to stop bothering with underachieving overpaid footballers and time to start paying and supporting Britains BEST......Cycling!

I think all the young athleths should use this Beijing olympics as benchmark for London 2012 by aquiring all the expirience needed.

I think that we need to stop critisizing these athletes that are there trying there upmost to keep face for this country. We have a promising futher with the likes of Shenaze Reade and Tom Daley flying the flag high. COME ON BRITIAN

Joe Baddins says...

Everyone is moaning about our athletes already! Its day 3 and we have already got 2 golds and sit in 7th in the medals table. I think we are doing great and look like we could get more in the next few days with rowing, swimming and sailing. People on here say we embrace mediocrity, dont you think its good for our athletes to get experience to make sure they are ready for medals at the next games? Cripes, we dont idolise mediocrity, it seems like we are a country of pessimistic moaners who are never going to be happy. Well done team GB!

We are the best sailing nation in the world and should bring home 5 medal with at least 3 being Gold yet no one gives a stuff, as they are too busy moaning about what we arn't winning. It would make a nice change for people to get behind our medal hopefulls, like all of the other nations at the Olympics, rather than have a go at the people who arn't expected to win!

Nicole Cook was badley let down by GB officials. On winning she stood looking round for someone to celebrate with, no one there, Italie's was. We then saw the shoot off between GB and France in the archery.the French officialwas giving advice and encouragement all through GB official just stood there looking pretty giving no help to our girls at all. Hope this stops for the good of our competitors.

Paul Briody says...

I expect very few from our team. The psyche of the British works against success at high levels. We are truly pathetic compared to other countries, an embarassment....2012 is going to be even worse. As for Paula! A snot and saliva drbbling travesty of sporting excellence. Do you want your daughter to look up to someone like that?We need to take this lesson to heart or the future of mankind will always belong to someone else, and the Brits; rightly forgotten.

James Smith says...

Why is it that we send athletes to the olympics that have no chance of winning or competing for medals? For example the UK male swimming team were awful and had absoultely no chance of being near the medals yet we send them and spend alot of money on them. We in this country seem to embrace mediocrity. I would rather have a smaller team who were genuine medal contenders.

i think track events may be are worst for area, i think the judokas are the medal hopefuls with craig fallon looking good, and mark cavendish(who is manx not english) will be looking for gold, idowu may come back with medal, but likely to be bronze if anything, are best hope for medals is definetly away from the track.

Paula will put her Athens heartbreak behind her and come good in Beijing.

James Joseph says...

I can't see us winning too many medals on the track this time around. We might scrape an odd bronze in the relay or the heptathlon but I think that will be it. Our best hope will come with the cyclists.
