British-born Australian Lucinda Fredericks dominated the opening session of the dressage on the first day of equestrian eventing to take the early lead in the individual event - ahead of husband Clayton.

She accumulated an impressive 30.40 penalty points on Headley Britannia while Clayton earlier scored 37.00 on Ben Along Time.

British riders William Fox-Pitt and Daisy Dick endured relatively disappointing performances in the morning session and are 11th and 13th respectively.

Fox-Pitt, on Parkmore Ed, picked up 50.20 points while Dick scored 51.70 on Spring Along.

"I'm disappointed," said 39-year-old Fox-Pitt. "He (Parkmore Ed) is capable of a lot better.

"He seemed very aware of where the exit was and it was hard to keep him concentrated."

Lucinda Fredericks was happy with her assured display.

"I wasn't nervous out there and thoroughly enjoyed my ride," she said.

"I have been very lucky as I still have supporters that are British and the Australian federation and team members here have been very supportive."
