Hindle: fine performance
GB are up to second after the first day of the Olympic dressage thanks to a fine performance from Emma Hindle on Lancet.
The 33-year-old scored 71.125 percent in Hong Kong on Wednesday night, a great performance which also saw her climb up to second in individual qualifying behind Germany's Heike Kemmer.
Great Britain had earlier started badly when Jane Gregory scored only 63.375 percent on Lucky Star.
This ride was all the more disappointing considering Gregory had recorded a personal best of 72 percent at Lipica earlier this year.
"I am cross with myself," said Gregory. "It is very much inward frustration as I thought I could put him (Lucky Star) up to the scores we want.
Tension
"He probably read a little tension in me."
Kemmer put in the best ride of the day with 72.250 percent on Bonaparte to move into medal contention.
Germany are certain to challenge for the medal positions with Kemmer's two other team-mates taking to the arena on Thursday evening.
"That was a good start for the team," he said. "Bonnie (Bonaparte) gave everything.
Fighting form
"He began in fighting form and wants to show his piaffe and passage."
Holland's Imke Schellekens-Bartels, on Sunrise, is in third place with 70.875 percent while the Dutch currently lead the team standings with 70.250 percent, with Sweden back in third on 66.583 percent.
Britain's third and final rider Laura Bechtolsheimer will now perform her dressage on Thursday evening, with much expected from the 23-year-old.
The Gloucestershire rider, who was named British Dressage 'Dressage Rider of the Year for 2008', achieved a record score for a British rider in an international grand prix with 75.33 percent at Olympia last year.
Individual favourites Anky van Grunsven of Holland and Germany's Isabell Werth will also compete on Thursday.
