British youngster Tom Daley will have hoped to have learnt a lot from his first Olympic outing as he prepares for his individual event on Friday.
Having made his debut in the 10m synchronised event last week, with partner Blake Aldridge, the 14-year-old features in the evening session of preliminaries for the 10m platform.
There was fall-out post competition when Aldridge criticised the youngster for failing to focus in the wake of huge media hype. Yet it was Aldridge who came under fire from the press as he was filmed on the phone to his mum whilst waiting to dive.
Since the incident the pair have settled their differences, allowing Daley to concentrated on his individual event.
The Plymouth teenager hopes he has now conquered his nerves and can better his seventh position in the synchro after admitting anxiety affected his first Olympic performance.
Nerves
"I have got a few cobwebs out of the way now and I'm not as nervous," said Daley.
"Now I know what the Olympic Games is going to feel like I can compete like a normal competition.
"So I will go into the individual and try to make it up for what I did in the synchronised event.
"It was disappointing but I'm going to go out into the individual full of confidence and try to have as much fun as possible.
"I won't do anything different in terms of preparation. I'm just looking forward to going out there."
As Britain's youngest Olympian since Ken Lester in 1960 it can be forgiven that Daley got stage fright, especially with the huge crowd who had come to see home favourites Lin Yue and Huo Liang win the gold medal.
