Great Britain's women came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Argentina on Tuesday to keep their medal hopes flickering.

GB had been thrashed 5-1 by defending champions Germany in their pool opener and when they fell 2-0 down in the first half to Argentina after goals from Agustina Garcia and Alejandra Gulla, their hopes of reaching the last four looked bleak.

But strikes from Sarah Thomas and Mel Clewlow with Argentina down to 10 following the sin-binning of Gonzalez Olivia after the interval secured Britain a point.

Crista Cullen's 48th-minute penalty corner was saved but Helen Richardson's reverse-stick shot was tipped in by Wales forward Thomas and then Clewlow drilled in another set-piece two minutes later.

Rosario Lucjetti could have won it for Argentina in the dying moments but the ball was just played behind her with the goal at her mercy.

Wins

Britain probably still need to win their three remaining pool matches to finish in the top two.

"We had a good debrief (after the previous defeat)," Britain's coach Danny Kerry said. "Had we lost today, then I think it would have difficult."

Next up for them is a clash with New Zealand on Thursday.

After going behind early on, three-time Olympic champions Argentina came stroming back to beat Spain 6-1.

Angela Lambert led the way with two goals, while four of the six came from penalty corners.

"Obviously we'd liked to have capitalised on some of the opportunities we had earlier. They scored against the run of play which wasn't so good for us," Australia captain Melanie Wells said.
