Tim Brabants added a bronze medal to the gold he clinched earlier in the week as he came home third in a thrilling men's K1 500m final on Saturday.

The Englishman proved a class apart in the K1 1000m final, but the race over half that distance proved a much tighter affair and was ultimately won by Australian Ken Wallace with Canadian Adam van Koeverden narrowly edging out Brabants to pinch silver.

Brabants, in lane one, made a decent start although it was van Koeverden, in five, who made the early running, streaking out into what looked a commanding lead.

However, as the race entered the final 100 metres it was Wallace out in lane eight who came with a searing late charge to take victory on the line with Brabants just failing to get past van Koeverden.
