Shooter Matt Skelhon claimed Britain's 22nd gold medal of the Paralympic Games in the mixed R3 10 metres air rifle.

The 23-year-old led throughout the course of the final and finished with a score of 704.9, 0.5 points ahead of China's Zhang Cuiping.

Skelhon said: "I am satisfied with 704.9, although I could have done better.

"I actually put a lot of pressure on myself."

British team-mate Nathan Milgate finished the event in 12th place.

Meanwhile, Helene Raynsford has become the first Paralympic rowing gold medallist in history with a win in the women's single sculls.

Victory

She stormed to victory to finish 12.51 seconds ahead of the pack in the first ever Paralympic rowing final.

Tom Aggar also claimed gold in the men's single sculls with a time of 5 minutes 22.09 seconds.

He produced an impressive performance to finish nearly six seconds ahead of second place Oleksandr Petrenko of the Ukraine.

Britain's mixed coxed four team won bronze in the final rowing final of the

Games.

Vicki Hansford, Naomi Riches, Alastair McKean and James Morgan, with cox Alan Shermen, finished third behind Italy.

In the Birds' Nest, David Weir suffered another agonising defeat when he finished third in the men's T54 5000 metres.

With a disappointing defeat in the men's T54 400m, this is another blow for the athlete.

Weir was going strong at the bell but, having been troubled with illness since

Sunday, could not push forward and Thailand's Prawat Wahoram took gold.

Weir said: "When Prawat's in front, that's when he races best.

"I didn't really want him to be in front and then I didn't want to go too early."

Elsewhere, swimmer David Roberts won his third gold of the games in the men's S7 400m final.

The three-time Paralympic champion finished the race in four minutes 52.35 seconds.

Surreal

He said: "It's kind of a surreal feeling in a Paralympic final to know with seven

lengths to go nobody was coming past me."

Sam Hynd and Heather Frederiksen won bronze in the men's SM8 200m individual medley and women's 200m medley respectively.

Britain's Louise Watkin also came third in her event, the SM9 200m individual medley behing South African Natalie Du Toit.

In equestrian, Sophie Christiansen and Ann Dunham won golds as part of the team test and both now have two first-placed finishes and a second.

Britain remain in second place in the medal table with 26 golds behind China's 30.
