Sam Eade says...

I commend the whole GB set up, it is fantastic (some areas more than others). However before we start attacking other sports, such as football (our nations most popular sport) don't pretend that you were watching cycling before this Olympics came along, i'm sure they have had their dark days as well. Football is scrutinised non stop as it is in the spotlight. We're making strides forward in some areas but we just happen to win the events that the other countries are poorer in. I'm constantly watching the track and hearing statements such as "it's a learning curve or an experience!". Let's not get ahead of ourselves! We're getting there but it is still a long way to go!

First of all huge congratulations to the all the GB medal winners this weekend. The excellence shown by our athletes across an ever widening array of sports is unparrelled in our recent sporting memory. But more than that is the complete dominance in their events of a number of multiple medal winning athletes,by the end of the Games it is likely we will have at least 3 multi-gold winning athletes plus a three time winner in Ainslie Few nations dominate a sport the way we currently dominate cycling, led by messrs Hoy and Wiggins.Whose astonishing tally of medals looks to receive at least another couple of golds. Even the traditionally strong rowing squad have bettred all recent Olympics . The future looks bright. If Athletics can pull it together, which they just may, then we can easily look forward to a fantastic London

Well done and congrats to all the medalist, but still more effort needed in the glamour events.

If we can return to our previous levels of achievement in athletics by 2012 we will be a real force to be reckoned with at the London Olympics. To all those guys who commit their time and effort out of the limelight to becoming champions of their sport, respect and admiriation beyond words. Come on you footie superstars take a leaf out of this humble peoples books. They are the real superstars.

Why are people complaining about what we are called or how we sing our national anthem. Be proud for once, finaly we are doing well, finaly we have something to be proud off, away from the sport failures, the street crime the pathetic politics and not just from the goverment in charge right now. Fantastic from Team GB, briiliant weekend......AT LAST. Remember we are not the biggest country and have a team half the size of USA and China.

Well done to all the medal winners, great effort and so proud of all of you, I do scream at my tv a lot whenever GB is close to winning any race. You all deserve to get full support in your chosen field. Congrats.

what a sad person j caveney must be! instead of enjoying the sport and team gb success ,he`s worried about the singing of the national anthem by patriotic supporters of the team who have travelled to china not watching highlights on television in thier arm chairs

First I'd like to say congrats to all the team members who have won a medal. But if you look at the events that we have excelled in on the bikes and rowing I think it shows a lack of funding nationally for sport. I live in one of the biggest cities in england and I would have to go 60 miles to get to a velodrome and my city has a river and I've never seen one rowing boat! Never mind any other olymic event!

Amazing weekend, Were putting the GREAT back in Great Britain. Lets make sure the funding is there for all of the current and up & coming stars for 2012.

Its all well and good us winning medals, but don't you find it annoying come the medal ceremony, the brits that are there in Bejing are incapable of keeping in time with our national anthem

Wow! I can't believe how well we're doing. Well maybe I can as we seem to do well in lesser supported sports than the main ones. We've even managed a World record in the pool. Wonder if Rebecca will be made a Dame as was Kelly Holmes, (wishful thinking maybe). We may even get more medals in the gymnasium than in the Birds Nest. Disappointing as it was to see Radcliffe come in 23rd, lets give her some credit for showing the Olympic spirit. It reminded me of a marathon runner in Mexico '68 who injured his leg, carried on and limped into the stadium at 8 o'clock in the evening with bandages dangling from his leg. He got a bigger cheer than the winner! Well done to everyone so far

This is a huge achievement for our British Team; and agreed with Chris about those overpaid, under-achieving footie players! Team GB reaching 3rd in the medal tables is unexpected for all of us, but I think it just shows how far we've come, and certainly bodes well for our athletes on home soil in 2012!

Tremendous!!!! Something great to come out of the Lottery ticket funding. I am soooooooo proud to be British - fly the flag Team GB. We're proud of you!!

Nick Taylor says...

What an amazing Weekend!! We have had a great Olympics, and we can be really proud of all of our medal winners. In particular Rebecca Adlington, Ben Ainslie, and pretty much everyone in our cycling and rowing teams. Yes there are some disapointments, Judo springs to mind. But now is not the time to look at the negatives, lets enjoy and savour our successes. The medal ceramony for Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter was truly moving, and you could really see how much it meant to them and their families when the union jack was raised. Fabulous stuff, and I look forward to London 2012!!

Trevor Ferdy says...

Since when did we call ourselves "Team GB"? Do we really need to sound so dumbed-down?

Posted 13:38 17th August 2008

James A says...

Consider that we are third but you may think there is a large gap! I wouldn't worry really because if people consider that the two largest teams are the top two! It shows we are just as good! TEAM GB! Rule!

Posted 12:49 17th August 2008

Chris Patterson says...

Fantastic achievement by Team GB. Great to see us up there in third in the medals table, above the likes of Germany, Russia, did I mention Australia?... The cyclists are incredible and I reckon there will be three more golds to come. Cycling must be close to being our national sport - those overpaid prima donnas of the soccer pitch should take note. They couldn't even manage to be in the top 16 in Europe this summer. Our cyclists are on top of the world!
