Whilst his feat is truely amazing, This is over only 2 Olympic Games. Steve Redgrave won 5 gold medals in successive olympic games which makes him the greatest olympian ever. To do it over that length of time takes far greater fitness and comittment. There are many opportunities to win medals in swimming.

People have been likening Michael Phelps achievement to being able to run 100m, 200m, 400m etc etc. I think it is more similar to having 100m egg&spoon, 100m running backwards and 100m sack race. Maybe then we would get a 10-gold medallist in Athletics!! Nigel Pullan
